Some Fantasy Manga Which I Think are Awesome.
Fantasy manga which you should be reading in 2022.
Majority of the recommendations lists which I post in this blog site are just compiled together by me which means that I may have not actually read many of the manga/manhwa/manhua. But it doesn't mean that I don't know much about it. I started reading manga around 3 years ago. I had just finished watching the final episode of 'Rising of the shield hero' Season 1 and I just wanted more. The first thing I did was search on google 'When is the second season of rising of the shield hero coming out?' Fortunately the company which made the anime had already approved for not just a second season but also a third season. I checked for the release dat which was still a year and a half ahead.
Who else in my position wouldn't feel depressed. I heard somewhere that the manga had already adapted the second season worth of content from the light novel. Which meant that I didn't have to wait for a year and half. This is how I got into reading manga.
If You are a veteran manga reader like me you must know the horrible update schedule of manga. to even get a single chapter I had to wait for months. But as i had been exploring new and different manga I found many new stories which I could read. The month long wait didn't feel much as I had many other manga to spend my time with. After a long year of continuously reading manga each and every day. I found myself out of good manga to read. I explored manhwa, manhua and webtoons and spent my time reading them while the manga I liked got updated.
With this much I cam pretty much say that I am a cultured veteran in manga reading. You may be someone who is currently getting into reading manga after watching anime or you may be someone like me who has already read many manga and now are just looking for some recommendation. Whoever you may be this list will definitely not disappoint you. So lets get started with the list.
1. Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
Mashle is a manga which was released in 2022 and currently has 107 chapter. A very big chapter count I must say. Not many manga has a chapter count this high. Mashle is a story about a boy born into a world of magic himself being unable to use magic. Because of his inability to use magic he trained his body so much so that he gained inhumane strength. You should definitely give this manga a go if you haven't already. One punch man is nothing in front of this manga. This manga is very similar to one punch man. But personally I think its better with its world build clearly inspired from 'Harry potter' and its setting from "Doryoku Shisugita Sekai Saikyou no Butouka ha". Even the troupes in this manga original and extremely hilarious. The main character has the most witty and sarcastic comment which are very hilarious. Check this manga out for sure.
Synopsis:
Can muscles crush magic?! In the magic realm, magic is everything—everyone can use it, and one’s social status is determined by their skill level. Deep in the forest, oblivious to the ways of the world, lives Mash. Thanks to his daily training, he’s become a fitness god, but he harbors a secret that could turn his life upside down—he can’t use magic! When he’s found out, rather than his life being over, he’s unexpectedly enrolled in magic school, where he must beat the competition! Mash just wants to live in peace with his father in the forest. But the only way he'll ever be accepted in the magic realm is by attending magic school and becoming a Divine Visionary—an exceptional student revered as one of God’s chosen. But without an ounce of magic to his name, Mash will have to punch his way to the top spot.
2.Witch Hat Atelier.
Witch Hat Atelier has a harry potter style magical fantasy vibe. The story follows a young witch named coco and hear journey in learning magic. This story introduces you to a bunch of interesting character which would make you want to read more. This manga was released in 2016 and currently had around 57 chapters. Yeah I know you have your jaw open. just 57 chapters in 7 years. What kind of sickly update schedule is that. Life is sad sometimes. Even with such a horrendous update schedule you would definitely come back every month to check if another chapter got updated. The art of this manga is soo unique, what can I say? It would take a bit of time to get used to the art if you are a old manga reader. The art is by no means comparable to any normal manga. Which explains the bad update schedule. Those artist must be spending day and night just to make a single page. Just check this manga out.
Synopisis:
In a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: She wants to be a witch. But everybody knows magicians are born, not made, and Coco was not born with the gift for magic. She's resigned to her un-magical life, until a traveling magician passes through her village, and Coco learns what what everybody "knows" might not be the truth.
3. Dai Dark.
Dai dark is is written by Q hayashida. For those of you who don't know she is also the author of dorohedoro. Dai dark throws into the void of space where out main character Zaha Sanko tries to navigate a cruel and a unloving universe where everyone wants to murder him. Isn't it a very dark turn for a fantasy manga? Manga can be like this sometimes. This is not a manga like the above two manga which are just the goodness of the fantasy. This manga is a bit on the darker side. Why does everyone want to murder our main character you may ask? Its because there is a legend which says that his bones can grant you any wish which even includes becoming the lord of the universe. This manga is weird, wacky and wonderfully violent. Check this manga out.
Synopsis:
Zaha Sanko’s body has great and terrible powers–they say that possessing his bones will grant you any wish, even the desire to become ruler of the universe. But Sanko is still a teenage dude with his own life, and he isn’t about to let every monstrous lowlife in the galaxy rip him limb from limb. He and his skeletal buddy Avakian will use their dark powers to fend off any murder attempts while they search space for whomever put this curse on Sanko’s bones… because killing them might end the madness. (And then Sanko can celebrate with his favorite spaghetti.)
4. Dandadan.
This manga is about two high school kids Takakura and Ayase, they both hold different beliefs. Takakura believes that Ghost and spirits are real and Ayase believes that Aliens are real. Because of their so distant beliefs they are constantly fighting. But who is right? Dandadan is a mix of Horror, Funny and Wholesome. A story about 2 friends on a mission to exorcise Yokai and defeat Aliens. Dandadan is wholesome in its portrayal of characters, no one ends up being particularly unlikeable. Even the "villains" of the story have a good motivation. It is truly amazing when an author can make you feel for a villain. The horror elements are so creepy and unique to this sort of action manga. Yokai and aliens resemble something out of your nightmare. Which makes them excellent villains, but also feels extra harsh when you hear their backstories. Comedy is subjective and you will have to read the manga to see if you like this sort of humour. Also, there is some real girl power here. This is definitely a shonen-esque story but it's not limited to typical shounen cliches. This is because unlike typical Shueisha manga, which gets printed in shonen jump, this is their online-only manga plus, series. This gives authors more freedom to tell their stories. You should definitely read this manga.
5. Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku.
Set in the Edo period of feudal Japan, Hell’s Paradise introduces us to our main character Gabimaru the Empty. A renowned ninja known for his stone cold act when taking lives, Gabimaru is now in prison on death row for his heinous crimes. Since nobody is able to efficiently kill him because of his amazing strength, we are presented with our second main character Sagiri Asaemon. Sagiri is apart of the famous Yamada clan of professional decapitators, supposedly put up to behead Gabimaru. Instead she shows him a official pardon from the Shogunate saying that if he can use his strength to find an elixir in a mysterious island he may be absolved of his crimes. The catch is that this is no ordinary island. Reminiscent of Journey to the Center of the Earth and a little bit of Darwin’s Game, Hell’s Paradise uses plant horror as a foundation to it’s action. Definitely check this manga it currently has around 127 chapters. I haven't finished reading this manga but from what I have read i can say that this is a great manga which you will adore.
